Live updates: Trump heads back to DC as trade deadline approaches

President Trump will return Tuesday evening to Washington, after a five-day Scotland trip during which he spent a day with the British prime minister and opened in a new golf course. Trump told those gathered at his course in Aberdeen that he would come back to D.C. to "put out fires all over the world."

With an Aug. 1 start date for his tariffs to kick in, trade deals are top of mind. He told reporters on Air Force One that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's two-day negotiations with the Chinese went well. And on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve announces whether interest rates will remain unchanged again.

In addition to a blitz of economic news, Trump is talking about the U.S. helping to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying the U.S. would help set up food centers. "We're going to be dealing with Israel, we think they can do a good job of it," he said on the flight back.

The Jeffrey Epstein saga also continues to dominate the news, with his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, telling the House Oversight panel she would speak with it only on condition of immunity — an idea the panel swiftly rejected. And as the president continues to be dogged by questions regarding his relationship with the disgraced financier, Trump claimed that Epstein “took” young women working at a spa at Mar-a-Lago years ago.
