Texas state Rep. Nicole Collier quickly exited a video call hosted by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) when she was told that she wasn't allowed to participate from the statehouse bathroom.
The Texas Assembly Speaker has told statehouse Democrats they must stay on the floor, unless they need to use the washroom. Otherwise, they need an escort to move around. Collier has protested this policy.
The DNC call brought together Chair Ken Martin, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (D).
Redistricting was center stage Wednesday, with Texas House members debating a bill that would gerrymander congressional districts to benefit Republicans in the Lone Star State. California lawmakers are holding sessions to discuss new maps that would benefit Democrats. California Republicans have sued the state to stop the effort.
